August 19, I had the opportunity to visit with Nick Kane.
This was my first visit since he built his layout. You can see that his layout has a nice height. We ran his locos and discussed his ideas for the expansion. He is considering an S or U-shape. The S gives his railroad a look of distance, with trains going to and coming from a different area. The U offers greater ease of single-person operations. But he is in no hurry there. His current project is his third, yes, third scratch-built brass locomotive. For those of you who have followed Nick's journey here or on my YouTube channel, he has become a master craftsman! He is devout about authenticity and accuracy! Visible are two of his also scratch-built water tanks. Of course, these are also based on actual tanks for the SVRR.
I hope to return in October as an extension of work in Napa.
